Tutor Perini Corporation Announces Notice to Proceed on SR99 Bored Tunnel Project Final Design and Construction

SYLMAR, Calif., Sep 09, 2011 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Tutor Perini Corporation (NYSE: TPC), a leading civil and building construction company, today announced that the SR99 Bored Tunnel Project to replace the Alaskan Way Viaduct has received approval to begin final design and construction.

The Federal Highway Administration signed a record of decision allowing the Washington State Department of Transportation to begin final design and construction of the State Route 99 tunnel beneath downtown Seattle. The tunnel will replace the double-deck Alaskan Way Viaduct along Seattle's waterfront and will involve the construction of approximately 12,500 linear feet of new roadway.

Seattle Tunnel Partners, a joint venture between Dragados USA and Tutor Perini, can now begin work on the second phase of the $1.4 billion contract. Final completion and traffic through the tunnel is scheduled for December, 2015.
